Twice a year, when Daylight Savings Time changes.

3. Where is the best place to attach a smoke detector?
Because smoke rises, smoke detectors should always be placed on ceilings or high on walls.

4. What's the best kind of fire extinguisher to buy?
An all-purpose extinguisher, meaning it can be used on grease and electrical fires

5. How do you operate a fire extinguisher?
The NFPA says to remember the word PASS when operating an extinguisher:

--Pull the pin. Release the lock with the nozzle pointing away from you.
--Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire.
--Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly.
--Sweep the nozzle from side to side.

6. What is the number one cause of fire deaths in the US?
According to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), cigarettes are the No. 1 cause of fire deaths in the United States and Canada, killing about 1,000 people per year. Most are started when ashes or butts fall into couches and chairs.

7. What is the best kind of smoke detector to buy?
Get smoke alarms that can sound fast for both a fire that has flames, and a smoky fire that has fumes without flames. They are called “Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms."

8. Why is it dangerous to drive a car or truck in a pasture of high grass?
A hot exhaust pipe or catalytic converter can ignite dry grass.

9. What happens if my clothes catch on fire?
--If YOUR clothes catch on fire, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"
--If your friend's clothes catch on fire, don't let him or her run; yell, "Stop, Drop and Roll!"
--Once they are down and rolling, you can use a rug, blanket, towel, or other heavy cloth to help put out the flames on their clothes.
--Get adult help or call 9-1-1 or "O" for operator.
--Don't hang up until you are told to do so; listen for instructions.
